Description

The original is a classic sweet, sentimental ballad of remembrance, verses of homage to a beautiful place composed by a Dr Arthur Colahan, in memory of his brother Randolph, who had drowned in the Bay in 1912 (Colahan was born in Fermanagh but brought up in Galway city).
It was made famous by Bing Crosby, is still very much a favourite across the Atlantic.
This take by the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem, however, is very different!
I couldn't track down the author, but given the reference to 'Pabst Blue Ribbon', an American beer, it probably came from the States. Understandable also that the Clancys and Makem would decide to sing it in Carnegie Hall, where there would undoubtedly have been a huge emigrant Irish contingent - they would surely have knocked a bit of craic out of it all!
