Andy Stewart was an acclaimed Scottish singer and entertainer who presented the BBC variety show “The White Heather Club” in the 1960’s. He was awarded an MBE in 1976 and died in 1993, aged just 59.
This song was first released in 1989 when it reached number 37 in the UK charts and number 1 in Canada. It was subsequently re-released in the UK in 1989 when it became a bigger hit, reaching number 4. The Elvis parody half way through is sublime.
