Description
Some copies were billed as "Gen X", others as "Billy Idol & Gen X", and others as "Billy Idol". Either way, "Dancing With Myself" always remained a staple at dance clubs (as well as "Mony Mony").
The song was recorded at the time Generation X shorted their name to Gen X. The only original members left were Idol and bass guitarist Tony James, and ex-Clash drummer Terry Chimes was also a member during this time.
Recorded in 1980 but didn't chart until 1981, "Dancing With Myself" peaked at #27 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and missed the Billboard Hot 100, settling for a peak position of #102 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.
The song also made it to #62 in England, #9 in New Zealand, and #39 in Canada.
