Karl Leister (1937-)
German clarinetist. He is one of the world's leading clarinetists. He was born in Lower Saxony.
At the age of 11, he began playing the clarinet after being introduced to it by his father, a clarinetist with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. From the age of 15, he spent about three years studying at the Berlin Academy of Music. At the age of 19 he became principal player of the Berlin Komische Oper and at the age of 22 he became the principal player of the Berliner Philharmoniker. From 1993 to 2002 he was professor at the Hanns Eisler College of Music in Berlin.
