Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow (Ukrainian: Ой у лузі червона калина - Oi u luzi chervona kalyna) is a Ukrainian patriotic march, written by the composer Stepan Charnetskii in 1914, in honor and memory of the Sich Riflemen.
Regarded as an unofficial 2nd national anthem - it represents Ukraine’s Freedom Fighters - from the Sichovi Striltsi (Sich Riflemen) of WW1, to the partisans of UPA (Ukrainian Povstanska Armiya) in WW2 thru the Cold War on to modern times.
The song gained a new global audience and saliency in March 2022 when a rendition by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the Ukrainian band Boombox was remixed by South African musician The Kiffness. Khlyvnyuk had left the U.S. tour to return to Ukraine to resist the Russian invasion and recorded an a capella version on a street in army fatigues.
